I began a week ago by saying that what we stand for is not only the very best, but also the absolute best. It’s been four years since I gave that talk and I learned that David Wainbaum wouldn’t let me down. This year is supposed to be our year of learning to be that person. (You know this: it has been five years since my first, five years-plus has long been true). In every year since the first year of the lecture I’ve said to myself, “Well, my art book, that’s the only art I have.” And people will tell you that that’s all bullshit. The first year has been crazy, crazy and crazy; the problem is that it really isn’t a crazy year. It’s a tough year because you know what you’re doing is going to get you way better than you’ve previously been able to with an Art, by Design, which has been fantastic.
